The Artist of the Year Masterclass is a new series featuring tutorials from a host of talented artists who have taken part in Portrait Artist of the Year or Landscape Artist of the Year. In this 40-episode series, they demonstrate easy-to learn techniques for budding artists at home. Series judge, Tai-Shan Schierenberg, leads the series with masterclasses on building a portrait and understanding tone.

Each masterclass will focus on a different subject or technique to help audiences understand the basics of painting and drawing. Classes cover everything from Alla Prima painting and colour mixing to composing a landscape, child portraiture and botanical flowers. The artists will be working in a variety of different mediums from oils to acrylic, charcoal to watercolour. Step to step guides can be found below.
